English for Traveling: Airport, Travel Agency, and Customs

If we travel to a foreign country, a traveler has to interact with customs and immigration officials. The expressions below can be used when dealing with them. Look at the examples below.

Travel agency

A: May I help you?
B: Yes, I need a ticket to Singapore for the 7th of April. I prefer a morning flight.
A: One way or round trip?
B: One way trip only, please!
A: Do you want any particular flight?
B: Yes, I want to go business class and have a direct flight.
A: Let me check the computer. Yes there is an available flight on UdarAir Air Ways. The ticket will cost $950.
B: Sounds good, book it.
A: Thank you. You can pick up your ticket at this office on the 3rd
B: Thanks.


Airport check-in

A: Good morning.
B: Good Morning. May I have your ticket and passport, please?
A: Yes, here they are.
B: How many pieces of luggage will you be checking in?
A: Just one, I also have one carry on bag.
B: Your luggage is three kilos over the limit. You’ll have to pay an extra charge of $15.
A: No problem. Here you go.
B: Thank you, have a nice flight.
A: Thanks.


Customs

A: Welcome to Bandung. Do you have anything to declare?
B: No.
A: Could you open your bag, please?
B: Sure,..... is everything OK?
A: Yes ma’am, enjoy you stay in Bandung
B: Thanks.
