Ada beragam cara dan gaya untuk menanyakan keadaan atau kabar dalam Bahasa Inggris (well being). Berikut beberapa contoh ungkapan yang dapat digunakan dalam menanyakan keadaan seseorang yang biasanya digunakan setelah menyapa (greeting):

How are you?

Ungkapan untuk Merespon 

Untuk merespon ungkapan tersebut kita dapat menggunakan sebagian opsi berikut:

Jika baik: Great, Couldn’t be better, Fantastic, etc.

Jika sedang-sedang saja: Could be worse, I can’t complain, Not bad, etc.

Jika buruk : I’ve had better days, Not too good, Lousy, etc.

Contoh Dialog atau Percakapan untuk Greetings dan Farewells

Dialog berikut merupakan sebagian ungkapan yang biasa digunakan untuk menyapa (greeting) dan memperkenalkan diri (introduction) dalam Bahasa Inggris. 

B: Hi, I’m Fuad. You’re close; it’s just across the lawn. It’s the biggest building over there.

A: I see, well thanks a lot. You’ve been a big help.

B: Excuse me for saying so, but you’re a new transfer student, aren’t you?

A: Yes I am.

B: So how long have you been here, Hasby?

A: I’ve been here about two weeks. So, what’s your major Fuad?

B: I’m a Biochemistry student. What’s yours?

A: I’m not sure yet, but I’m kind of interested in Psychology. Well, I have to go. Thanks for your help. Maybe we’ll meet again sometime.

B: Could be, it’s a pretty small campus. Nice to meet you, Hasby. See you later.

A: So long.
